Welcome to Here we Stand.

We are a AU DC forum, which accepts a wide variety of canon alongside original characters. We have a minimum 200 word per post count; a short application with optional RP sample after your first character here; and a 200 word history requirement only. Our activity requirements are one post minimum per month for canon and original characters.

Our plot focuses on a rising darkness which is causing magical disturbances throughout the world, bringing hardships to the heroes. The source of this darkness has been revealed and while they continue to gather support, it is up to the heroes to find a way to stop them before they reach their goal.

SPECTRE WATCH The Spectre is gathering more allies for his cause, to cleanse the world of the filth which lives within it. Driven by curiosity he seeks to test the so called 'heroes' of this world by presenting them with chaos, hardship and personal tests. At the moment, he is unimpressed by the actions of the various heroes and remains unswayed from his decision.

He still didn’t feel…. Right. Not even close. First of all, he had a slight headache, and Malcolm never had headaches without an actual cause. Second of all, he was missing something like an hour of time, and he hadn’t even had anything to drink, and third, he had supposedly treated Talia poorly, which didn’t sit well with him on its own. At least the woman had had the decency to realize he wasn’t himself and not to take it to heart.

Sweetheart and feisty vixen. Those were not his words. He didn’t even call Harley sweetheart, and Harley might actually appreciate such a pet name!

Still, he had wasted no time. He knew of two actual magicians who might be able to assist him. John Constantine had proven that he was competent, but lacked motivation. He was also not in the best standing with either Malcolm or Batman at the moment, though. Zatanna, well, Malcolm liked and respected the lady magician, and so it was her door upon which he was knocking.

It was a surprise when the door opened, letting him into a fortune teller’s parlor. On the table, there was a card. Reading it, Malcolm followed the instructions, his neat, flowing handwriting on the card as he wrote, Possessed. I will wait. Thank you. and then moved to stand quietly and patiently for the lady magician to see him. Was Ra’s al Ghul a man who was used to being kept waiting? No. But Malcolm Merlyn, as much as he wanted to be rid of this problem for the future, was willing to wait, patiently even. Zatanna Zatara had impressed Malcolm that much.

While he did mean the statement that yes, she would be the person he would prefer to speak with should he ever need her sort of assistance as a compliment, it wasn’t a really great one if you thought about it. Of course he would prefer to turn to someone who might understand him if he needed to unburden himself. Of course he’d prefer to speak with someone who was sympathetic toward him. No one enjoyed being judged, after all. Still, Malcolm would much rather talk to Harley about his problems than anyone else. Who else would he turn to? Who else might listen to his problems, problems the average person wasn’t likely to understand in the least, and give him any advice worth hearing? No one. There was no one, at least, no one who Malcolm would listen to. No one who wouldn’t have a hateful, angry reply.

Harley was one to see the silver linings in all of her clouds, no matter how dark they were. Malcolm… Was not such a soul. But he was not someone who would let his dark clouds overwhelm or get to him, either. He simply pushed on, holding onto his faith in himself, in his decisions, in the path he was walking. He made mistakes, and he recognized that. In hindsight, his Undertaking had been doomed to disaster from the start, even if it had been made with the best intentions - to rid Starling of the corrupt souls in the Glades so the rest of the city could come together to rebuild, and to rebuild better. He shouldn’t dwell on the failures of his past, though.

After all, he was sitting at a nice table in an expensive restaurant with a beautiful woman.

A beautiful, blushing, intelligent and perceptive woman. ”I didn’t say it to be nice, Harley.” that she thought it was was simply icing on the cake, but… ”I said it because it’s true. There are plenty of options for people, even me, to get the sort of help you offer. But you are the one that would understand someone like me. Or someone like nearly any of the people like us. Which means you’re the person that I, or another like us, would come to speak with you. Not only are you intelligent and competent, but you have the insight that is needed here. And you’re not judgemental.” There, lay it all out for her - not the nicest thing he could do, but it was honest, and… And that was more important when it came to this. Sitting back, he added more quietly, ”And you are trustworthy, which goes quite a long way.” It wasn’t something he knew, not really. It was intuition that told him he could trust her. But Malcolm had long ago learned to trust his instincts, to listen to that twist in his gut that told him things like this.

If Harley didn’t like Sun Tzu, Malcolm would find something they both enjoyed. ”If you don’t enjoy it, don’t worry - there are other things we can read, Harley.” He shrugged slightly, ”I’m sure I can dig up the original stories from Lewis Carroll, after all. And those, I do think you’d like.” Alice hadn’t always been the pure, sweet innocent that she was portrayed with these days… ”Or other stories… Most of what we call ‘fairy tales’ today were much different in their original text, you know.”

The response his honest compliments earned from her was… Unexpected. She was sweet in her own way, and yet, she wasn’t an innocent, she wasn’t naive. But the shyness she possessed in moments like this was.. It suited her, even if most people wouldn’t necessarily think so. He let her have a moment of quiet, taking a sip of his wine.

Christmas is here
Everywhere, oh
Christmas is here
If you care, oh

It’s Christmas!

And that means giving gifts. Gifts for Thea, something for Damian, perhaps, definitely a present for Harley… And that’ll probably be it.

Christmas was Tommy’s favorite holiday when he was a boy, and so I continue to celebrate it every year, even if it’s not something I used to find enchanting, there’s something special, almost magical, about it now.

So this usually goes that I list the things I want most for Christmas, and those who decide to get me gifts try to give me those things. There aren’t many things I can think of. You can’t bring Rebecca or Tommy back. You can’t make my daughter love me… But…

- Cure for Bloodlust
- A way out of my “deal” with the Spectre
- The blood gem that Oliver wants (for that specific reason)
- A joke and a smile from Harley

My world is changing
I'm rearranging
Does that mean Christmas changes too?

Seeking out the hidey holes of Batman and his friends had not been as helpful for ideas as Malcolm had hoped. He had gained no new ideas how to figure out how to ‘test’ the Batman and the new Robin in a way that both would pass without upsetting the Spectre.

And so Malcolm was opting to… cheat a little bit.

Bruce Wayne was an old friend of his. They had met each other when they had both joined the League, and gotten to know each other. The two men had gotten along surprisingly well, and while they weren’t in constant contact, and had some very different views on how best to fix things, they also had a mutual respect. Caught in a rather unpleasant predicament, Malcolm arrived at the home of his old friend… to talk.

Maybe, as the adage went, two heads would be better than one. Perhaps Bruce could offer insight into Malcolm’s dilemma. Besides, the Spectre hadn’t said Malcolm couldn’t employ the help of others… And if nothing else, this could be a warning to Bruce. One that would let him know that Malcolm had no choice in this, and was trying to figure out how to make everything right here.

So it was that Malcolm Merlyn, dressed smartly in a tailored business suit, rang at the residence of Bruce Wayne. He straightened his tie, and waited patiently for Bruce, or one of his people, to answer the door.

So I got a new job.

And life happened. Big time.

I was sick, I'm learning a new job and getting used to a totally new schedule. (the second part is the hard part for me). I've had a death in the family, which is still sort of up in the air about what is going on with that funeral-wise.

I promise I'm coming back. I know I have at least one post that's been sitting. I'm hoping to get back to posting in the next day or so. But I also have 2 weddings and a funeral to go to this month, so things are gonna be slow for a bit till I get settled back in.

Sorry about all the slowness!!! v.v
